Yes our deadline has come and gone but lucky you… we will be accepting registrations until we are full. We still have some spots. Send us an email and see if we still have room for you!
Hello teachers. It’s time to get creative in finding ways to fund your professional development. First and foremost, it doesn’t hurt to ask your PTA or PTO if they would be willing to provide mini-grants for professional development. They often do this. And do it willingly!
Another often overlooked source may be your own contract. I know the district where I taught had a provision in our contract for a “pot of money” to be divided equally between all staff members who attended the yearly state teacher’s conference. In addition there was a second sum of money to be used towards all other conferences. Most teachers were unaware of this second source of money even though it was and still is in their current contract. I frequently applied to the latter funding to help cover my expenses for week long conferences I wanted to attend during the summer.
There are many resources on the internet as well that offer grants to teachers for professional development. Here are a few that may provide you with resources for funding:
I know that many districts realizing the importance of providing enriched programing to their students and staff have formed Educational Foundations. It doesn’t hurt to ask if they would be willing to cover professional development experiences for staff members too! Look at your local resources, your PTA, PTO, Education Foundations, perhaps other service organizations in your community. You may be pleasantly surprised. Be creative!
What’s the worst that could happen?
That’s right, we’re out of the box and we want you to be, too! Out Of The Box is an educational “on the road” program by us! We’re two, creative educators, Deb Barends and Dar Hosta. Together, we show classroom teachers, through presentations, collaborative projects, outdoor nature inspired activities, and hands-on workshops, how they can make and maintain creativity in their classrooms and still attend to the required curriculum standards.
We have lots of fun things planned for the future, including weekend “Out Of The Box Institutes” where you will be energized, inspired and filled with new ideas that you can take right back to your classroom and implement! We’re excited about making learning fun again and we hope you will join us. Sign up to receive notices from us by clicking the button on the sidebar, “I Wanna Be Out Of The Box!”
To learn more about these dynamic in-service sessions and how you can schedule a session at your school or in your district, contact Dar Hosta at firstname.lastname@example.org and Deb Barends at email@example.com.
We can’t wait to hear from you!
